Amid fear of Israelis in the city coming under attack from alleged sympathisers of Iran, the Delhi police has beefed up security at all the Israeli installations, including its mission and Chabad houses and extra security personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations here.
After the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Monday that the attack on an Israeli embassy car in the city in which four people, including the wife of an Israeli diplomat, were injured was carried out by Iran, the home ministry has asked the Delhi police to beef up security at the Israeli installations including places of worship in the city.
Delhi police sources said surveillance has been mounted on Afghan, Iranian and Israeli nationals staying in the city and their movements is being tracked. The details of the visitors from these countries who have recently entered the city through air or railway route is also being gathered and the list will be scrutinised. “These people are being scrutinised to ascertain whether anyone of them has a criminal record in India or their respective countries. It will help us narrow down the scope of investigations and to rule out their involvement,” a source said. The police will have a data bank of evidence from CCTV footage to records of air and rail travel along with log books of hotels in the city which too will be examined.
Security personnel have been deployed in extra numbers in markets and sensitive locations in Lutyens Delhi and barricades have been erected on different raids in the national capital where policemen are conducted random checking of bikes and suspicious looking vehicles.
