Watch movies at Durbar hall ground
Kochi: A month from now, Durbar Hall ground will sport a new look with a fancy open-air theatre enabling cinema buffs to view classics and blockbusters every Sunday evening.
A mega modern screen of 35x25 feet will be set up on the stage of the hall for the viewing pleasure of the public. Films like ‘Chemmeen’, ‘Sholay’ and ‘Pather Panchali’ will be some of the first few films to be screened to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema.
District Collector P.I. Sheik Pareeth said that he was inspired by the mega screen open air theatre at the IIT Madras and thought of installing such a facility at the Durbar Hall ground.“It will be an advanced version of the Nisagandhi auditorium at Thiruvananthapuram.
Durbar Hall is bigger than Nisagandhi. The total cost is estimated at Rs 25 lakh and the tendering process for various segments of the project is now on and we plan to inaugurate it in a month,” he said.
It will have the latest cinema projector and sound system and once dusk sets in, the show will start. The co-operation of the State Chalachitra Academi is also being sought in the implementation of the project.
