We’ve support, says red-faced BSY
Slamming Governor H.R. Bhardwaj for sending a special report to New Delhi reportedly recommending President’s rule in Karnataka, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday asserted that there was no constitutional crisis in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Yeddyurappa said, “It is wrong to state that we are facing a constitutional crisis. How can it happen when my party has the overwhelming support of the people as well as the 11 legislators whose disqualification was reversed by the Supreme Court? There is not a single instance of the breakdown of law and order either. In such circumstances, how can anyone even assume that there is a breakdown of the constitutional machinery?”
In his strongly worded five-page letter written to President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Mr Yeddyurappa accused the Congress of trying to dislodge his government, ever since he assumed power three years ago.
He also targeted Governor, H.R Bhardwaj saying he had not given his consent to the state Cabinet’s decision to conduct the Assembly session for ten days beginning from Monday.
Terming the allegations of horse trading levelled by the Congress as baseless, he asked “When the Apex Court itself has declared that the 11 legislators, belong to the BJP, how can the Congress accuse us of indulging in horse trading?”
Any action against his government would be tantamount to subverting the democratic process, the chief minister said while appealing to the President not to allow this to happen.
“In this background, I request you to see to it that no attempt is made to create a constitutional crisis in the state and that too when I have a commanding majority in the legislature,” he contended.
