Website poking fun at Modi closed
Hyderabad: The social media is now rife with conspiracy theories after a website lampooning Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was shut down after just a single day of operations.
The satirical website on Modi, www.narendramodiplans.com, was shut down within 24 hours. The unidentified site administrator posted a statement on the website indicating the site was forced to shut down. However, that statement was also removed later.
The statement claimed that the website has received nearly 60,000 views within 20 hours of its launch. The website, with a saffron background, had a picture of a smiling Modi purportedly showing his plans for the country. However, the ‘Get Details’ button is programmed to eternally elude the mouse pointer.
It was inspired from another website created as a satire against former US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, which is still available at www.romneytaxplan.com.
However, a statement was posted, on Wednesday, by the site administrator announcing, “I quit. In a country with freedom of speech, I assumed that I was allowed to make a decent satire on any politician, more particularly if it is constructive.”
The administrator also claimed that only the “leading party” could be made fun of, but “dare you touch the opposition with javascript, they will hunt you down.”
Queries to substantiate the claims were not answered by the admin, he reportedly didn’t want to elaborate anymore.
Narendramodiplans.com was basically just a single web page inviting readers to click on a button to read about how Modi plans to run the country if he’s elected Prime Minister in 2014.
