Will depose in court if given copter, says MLA
In an interesting development, the lone Congress MLA from insurgency-hit Bastar region in Chhattisgarh has refused to depose before the high court at Bilaspur in a poll-related case for not being provided a copter by the state government, his close aides said Friday.
The legislator from Konta (ST) in Sukma district, Kawasi Lakhma, has expressed his inability to appear before a bench of the court, which was scheduled to hear a petition on Thursday filed by a local BJP leader challenging his election to state Assembly, following the state government’s failure to provide him a chopper to fly to Bilaspur from his native place of Konta in south Bastar, the court was informed.
“Mr Lakhma is facing threat to his life from Naxals. Hence, he requested the state government to provide him a helicopter to fly to Bilaspur to attend the hearing in the court. But the state government did not oblige him,” an aide said.
