Will form government: Gogoi
After casting his vote, the Assam Chief Minister, Mr Tarun Gogoi, here on Monday claimed that they are going to form the government for third consecutive term in Assam.
However, the Leader of Opposition, Mr Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, looked equally confident by asserting that electorates of 62 Assembly segments where election was held on Monday have come out in large number to reject Congress party.
Admitting that they could not match the high-voltage campaign of the Congress party, Mr Mahanta said that people have voted against Congress. “Though, AGP had very little on stake in areas going to poll in the first phase, we are sure to gain all the seat which the party had lost to Congress in 2001 and 2006,” he added.
Earlier, coming out of polling station Mr Gogoi also said that claim of AGP and BJP forming government was not based on facts. “We are winning elections after elections since 2001 as people are happy over the performance of the Congress government,” he said adding that Opposition has not been able to establish charges of corruption on them.
Mr Gogoi also claimed that his party would get the sufficient number of seats to form the government but their alliance with Bodoland Peoples Front shall continue. The Union minister, Mr B.K. Handique, who was also camping in Jorhat claimed that Congress was going to get more seats than it had in 2006. He also ruled out that Congress party would need the support of All India United Democratic Front to form the government.
