Woman abducted from Howrah, later released
A 35-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped only to be released five hours later under mysterious circumstances. The incident took place at Jagachha in Howrah on Saturday evening.
The woman, Chandana Das, had gone to a co-operative bank in Banksara at around 7 pm. After drawing `1,000 in cash she requisitioned for withdrawal of `30,000 in cash for the second time and submitted a slip at the counter, according to sources.
Soon Ms Das received a call on her cellphone and went out of the bank to speak but did not return, preliminary investigations revealed. At around 9 pm the bank authorities received a call telling them that she was kidnapped.
The police was informed. It was found that the call was made from Ms Das’ cellphone. Her family lodged a complaint of abduction with the Jagachha police station.
At around 12.30 they learnt from the cops that a woman was found lying unconscious outside the Howrah station. Rushing to the spot they identified her and rushed her to Howrah General Hospital for treatment. During questioning Ms Das told the cops that a gang kidnapped her by covering her face with a cloth and took her away.

Body found near writers’

A body was found in a bag near the Writers’ Buildings on Sunday evening. At around 6 pm the body of the man whose identity is yet to be established was found lying at the foothpath near a cellphone company’s outlet opposite to the BBD Bag bus terminus. Multiple injuries were found on the body.
While the eyes were open, a deep cut mark was detected from the neck to the throat.
