Woman dodges cops, climbs holy steps in Sabarimala
In violation of traditional and ritual practices, a woman climbed the 18 holy steps of Sabarimala on Monday.
According to custom no woman between the ages of 10 and 50 is permitted to climb the holy steps to the shrine.
“Saraswathy from Andhra Pradesh was identified by the RAF at Sannidhanam. Saraswathy, who is 35, was disguised as an old woman who used a walking stick. She was taken to Ranni Shelter by the Pamba police for further proceedings,” Satheesh Kumar, executive officer, Devaswom Board told Deccan Chronicle.
“As the incident is a violation of ritual customs only 0no case can be registered. The sanctum sanctorum observed pancha punayaham as a solution for the incident before the shrine opened for evening puja,” said Tantri Kandararu Maheshwarar.
“The lady speaks Telugu so we concluded that she comes from Andhra Pradesh. Since she was found alone, she will have to stay at the government shelter in Ranni till someone comes to take her home. She will not be charged, but a report will be prepared with the information collected from her, said Pamba police.
