Woman drugs, strangles husband
A young woman near Mannargudi killed her husband by strangulating with a mobile charger wire after drugging him to sleep and then poured pesticide into his ears to ensure he was dead.
Selvam, 35, of Moovanallur, near Mannargudi, who had been working abroad, returned to his native place just 15 days ago.
On Monday, he went to his father-in-law’s house at Cherankulam where his wife Sivajothi, 27, was staying with his two-year-old son.
However, Selvam was found dead in the house on Tuesday morning under mysterious circumstances. Liquor bottles and a pesticide bottle were found near his body. His neck bore marks of ligature.
On receiving information, Mannargudi police retrieved the body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem.
When they questioned Sivajothi, she claimed she had left for her relative’s house near Aatkattiammankoil with her son at midnight after her drunk husband quarrelled with her.
When the grilling continued, she reportedly confessed to having murdered her husband as he suspected her fidelity.
According to her, Selvam suspected her fidelity and this led to frequent quarrels. On Monday night, Selvam, who was stoned, picked up another quarrel with her. He then cut her hair. Feeling humiliated, Sivajothi decided to finish him off.
“She mixed sleeping pills in his food. Selvam had his supper and went to bed as usual. Then, she strangled him with a mobile charger wire. To ensure he was dead, Sivajothi poured pesticide into his ears,” police said.
