Woman professional assaulted by auto driver
A 30-year-old woman professional of Cochin Special Economic Zone was allegedly assaulted by an autoricksaw driver after she protested against lewd comments reportedly made by him and two others while she was having tea at a roadside shop, police said on Tuesday.
The woman, who had come to the tea shop on a colleague's bike at around 10.45 PM on Sunday night after her shift, was irked by the comments and protested, following which the auto driver slapped her remarking ‘this is not Bangalore,’ Assistant Commissioner of Police T. R. Prakash said.
Her male colleague, who tried to intervene, was pushed aside.
The woman along with her colleague then went to the nearest police station to file a complaint and was asked to give it in writing. But since she was not in the right frame of mind after the incident, she told them she would give it the next day and returned.
Yesterday, she felt body pain and was admitted to the general hospital here, police said.
The woman demanded that the three tender a public apology.
Police said they have identified one of the accused and a hunt is on to nab them.
