Woman in U.P.takes ‘barat’ to husband’s house
A young woman, armed with her nine-month-old son, created a furore in Mallaw village in Gorakhpur district on Thursday evening when she arrived with her relatives in a fully decorated SUV and a band in tow.
The “baraat” left the people astounded since it was the “bride”, and not the “groom”, who led the wedding procession.
According to reports reaching here, the bride in this case was 21-year-old woman (name withheld on request) who had allegedly been abandoned by her husband after the birth of their son in October 2011.
“We met and fell in love after which we got married in November 2010. My family approved of the match and even attended the wedding but his family was opposed to the alliance. In October, last year, we had a son after which my husband was pressurised by his family to break ties with me. His family members even tried to kill my son shortly after he was born,” the woman told local reporters. According to her, after the birth of the son, her husband said that he was going to Kolkata in search of a better paid job.
“Since the past few months, I have lost contact with him. His mobile number has been disconnected and all my letters have gone unanswered. So I decided to bring my own “baraat” to his house but it seems that the family came to know of my plans and have left the place,” she said.
The woman later went to the Belipar police station and lodged a missing complaint about her husband.
The police say they will first investigate the woman’s story and then track down the husband.
