Woman's stomach operated instead of her leg

A surgeon at government-run Sri Krishna Memorial College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur removed a woman's gallbladder instead of operating her burnt leg.

The bizarre incident came to light after an FIR was lodged by the kin of the patient Sushila Devi two days ago.

The operation had taken place on September 8 and Sushila Devi is recuperating in the hospital, its authorities said on Tuesday. The FIR was confirmed by Superintendent of Police (SP), Town, Manoj Kumar who said the complaint was being investigated.

Meanwhile, SKMCH management has constituted a team of senior doctors to probe the charges against the doctor and submit a report within seven days, hospital superintendent G.K. Thakur said.
