Womb removal: 9 docs’ Registration suspended
Close on the heels of the exposure of a string of unwanted uterus surgeries in the Aamir Khan show Satyamev Jayate, the Chhattisgarh Medical Council (CMC) on Saturday suspended registration of nine doctors charging them of goading woman patients to remove their wombs.
The CMC has also directed these doctors to explain their conducts within a week, failing which their registrations would be cancelled permanently.
The move comes in the wake of reports that various private nursing homes and hospitals in Chhattisgarh have been forcing the women patients to remove their uterus by creating a fear of cancer among them.
Following this, state health minister Amar Agrawal recently ordered a probe into it.
“We have examined 32 cases of uterus removal in various private nursing homes in the state. Of these, in 22 cases, it has been found the wombs have been removed without any reason”, state health secretary Kamalpreet Singh said.
He added that more raids would be conducted across the state to stop the illegal practices by the doctors.
