Women soldiers may show border aggression
The daily retreat ceremony at the Wagah border, during which BSF and Pakistan Rangers put up a show of aggression, could soon see a contingent of women soldiers participating.
Sources said BSF planned to hold an all-woman ceremony at Wagah once a month. It would discuss the issue with Pakistan Rangers at the next meeting soon, they said.
The recruitment of women in BSF began in 2009, but their role at the retreat has been restricted to frisking women spectators.
Last year, BSF made four female guards part of the retreat allowing them to open the ceremony by walking through the parade arena.
An officer said the experiment received huge public response.
BSF would consider height, physical fitness, agility and stamina before selecting women soldiers for the ceremony.
