Wounds, holes in car don’t match
Forensic analysis of the scene of the alleged fake encounter in which Ishrat Jahan and three others were killed and of the weapons recovered from the spot indicate that they did not belong to the victims, sources said.
“The agency’s opinion is based on the report of a forensic expert. The forensic expert also opined that analysis of the bullet wounds on the body of Javed Pillai, who was killed along with Ishrat, indicate that his body might have been kept inside the Indica car (registration number MH 02-JA-4786) after the shooting outside the vehicle,” sources said.
“Forensic examinations of the bullet holes in the door (on the driver’s side) of the car and wounds on Javed Sheikh, alias Pranesh Pillai, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, are conflicting. Had Javed driven the car, the wounds would have been at different places on his leg, matching the holes on the right side of the car’s front door. But it’s not like that,” sources said, adding that this suggests he was first killed and then moved into the driver’s seat.
Ishrat Jahan, Javed Sheikh, Amjadali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an alleged fake encounter near Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004. Immediately after the encounter, the Gujarat police claimed the four slain persons had been on a mission to kill Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
