Yadav bahu winner before contest
She looked demure in s simple green sari but definitely much more confident than her previous tryst with politics.
Flanked by elders from the family and seniors from the party on the dais, Ms Dimple Yadav promised the people of Kannauj that she would work to protect the rights of the people and ensure development of the constituency.
Dimple, who filed her nomination for the Kannauj byelections on Tuesday, later addressed a rally where she sought blessings for her political stint.
“It is on your insistence that the party high command has sent me to contest this election and I promise to work for you with full sincerity. The Samajwadi Party is known to do what it says and had already started fulfilling the promises it made to the people in its manifesto,” she said.
She blamed the previous Mayawati rule for rampant corruption that had pushed the state backwards. Appealing for the support and cooperation of the people of Kannauj, she said, “Jis tarah aapne Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) aur Akhileshji par vishwas jataya hai, usi taragh aap apni is beti, behen aur bhabhi par bhi vishwas jatayenge aur poora vishwas aur samarthan denge.”
A thunderous round of applause that followed proved that Kannauj was won even before it was contested.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, with whose resignation the byelection has been necessitated, told the people that this byelection was a people’s poll and would be contested and won by them. This election, he added, was for a few months since Lok Sabha polls could be held earlier than scheduled. “I have won from here thrice and if I am the chief minister today, it is because of the love and trust that you have given me. I have tried to fulfil all the promises that I made to you in the elections,” he said.
