Yeddy accused of abetting tax evasion
After facing a series of land scam charges, now being probed by a Lokayukta court, chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has now been accused of abetting the evasion of huge amounts of tax.
This time, it is the Congress which has levelled the allegations.
In the dock along with him is BJP state president K.S.Eshwarappa who ironically, has been leading a group of dissidents seeking the CM’s ouster. According to Congress spokesperson V.S. Ugrappa, three industrial firms run by family members of Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Eshwarappa’s wife, had generated fake, illegal and unaccounted invoices to evade large amounts of central excise duty, sales tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income Tax.
According to the documents released by Mr Ugrappa at a press conference, joint commissioner, Central excise, Mysore division, and the deputy commissioner, central excise, Malenadu division, had imposed a huge penalty on the three firms — J.A.M. Pipes, Bhadra Concrete Products and Aditya Concrete Products pipes situated at Machenahalli, Shimoga, which manufacture cement concrete pipes and RCC, for generating fake and illegal invoices to evade excise duty.
The chief minister’s two sons are partners in the three firms.
