Yeddy meets BJP top brass
Beleaguered Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday met the BJP top brass, including Mr L.K. Advani, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, former party chief Rajnath Singh and senior leader M.M. Joshi. Sources disclosed Mr Yeddyurappa met the party top brass to express his gratitude for allowing him to continue at the top post amidst pressure from the Opposition to quit. Mr Yeddyurappa is embroiled in the land scam controversy.
Later in the day, Mr Yeddyurappa issued a statement rubbishing media reports suggesting he had spoken against Ms Swaraj during his recent meeting with party chief Nitin Gadkari and senior leader Arun Jaitley. Sources said the issue was discussed when Mr Yeddyurappa met Ms Swaraj in her chamber in Parliament, along with eight party MPs from Karnataka. Mr Yeddyurappa, it was learnt, also promised Ms Swaraj to inquire into the matter.
Through the statement, Mr Yeddyurappa “disassociated” himself from the references made to the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha in the media reports.
Meanwhile, after his meeting with the party leadership, Mr Yeddyurappa claimed the BJP top brass was “happy” with the state of affairs in Karnataka.
After his meeting with the party top brass, Mr Yeddyurappa said he was “seriously” thinking of taking back the land which the JD(S) leaders had “grabbed” and distribute it among the poor people.
