Yeddy: No constitutional crisis in K’taka

Slamming governor H.R. Bhardwaj for sending a special report to Delhi, chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday asserted that there was no constitutional crisis in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Yeddyurappa said, “It is wrong to state that constitutional crisis has emerged. How can there be one when my party is getting overwhelming support from the people as well as these 11 legislators? There is not a single instance of law and order breakdown either. Under such a circumstances, how can anyone even think about there is constitutional breakdown in this state?”
In his strongly worded five-page letter written to President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Mr Yeddyurappa strongly accused the Congress of continuing its effort to dislodge his government ever since he came to power in the state three years ago. The chief minister also accused that Bhardwaj had not given his consent to the state cabinet’s decision to conduct legislative assembly session for 10 days beginning from Monday.
He also alleged that the Congress was making its all-out efforts to dislodge a democratically elected government by making false accusations against the government that the state government had involved in horse trading. “When the apex court itself has declared that the 11 legislators belong to BJP party, how can the Congress accuse us of indulging in horse-trading,” he questioned.
He termed that such actions would only be amounting to subverting the democratic process and appealed to the President not to allow any such actions. “In this background, I request yourself to see that no attempt is made to create constitutional crisis in these state and that too when I am having commanding majority in the Legislature,” he contended.

Realignment of political parties likely

May 15: The developments in Karnataka followed by the steep hike in petrol prices may lead to a realignment of political parties ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, likely to begin in the second week of July.
If the Karnataka developments have brought the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) together against the BJP, the price rise, corruption could not only bring the NDA, the Left, the BJD and the TDP, closer but may compel the BSP to take a different line.
The BSP, the Samajwadi Party and the RJD have been backing the Centre from outside.
However, the Congress’ campaign against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly polls may force the BSP to take a independent line on the floor of two Houses.
The Left Front’s defeat in West Bengal and Kerala Assembly elections has posed a question mark on the viability of a third front or a non-Congress, non-BJP alternative.
A section of the Congress has been keen on to keep the AIADMK in good humour but any attempt in this regard could upset the DMK.
