Yeddyu corrupt, but shameless: Gowda
Janata Dal (Secular) supremo and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda on Tuesday launched a frontal attack on Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa by calling him shameless despite being corrupt. The seniormost politician of Karnataka declared that the BJP has been reduced in strength after the elections to the local bodies in the state.
Mr Gowda also announced that the plenary of the party will be held on January 19 and 20.
Interacting with reporters in the national capital after inaugurating the new party office, Mr Gowda said, “The chief minister is totally shameless. It is for the first time in 60 years of politics I have come across a chief minister facing a slew of charges ranging from corruption to nepotism.”
When asked to comment on the developments in the Bofors scandal, Mr Gowda said that the BJP should first look at its own backyard in Karnataka before finding fault with other political parties. He said, “If the BJP has any sense of shame it will first act against its own chief minister who is facing so many corruption charges.”
When reporters sought his views on the results of the zila panchayat polls, the former Prime Minister said, “Results to 10 zila panchayats are hung. Actually, the BJP’s strength has reduced if one goes by the voting pattern.” Out of the 30 zila panchayats, the BJP had won 12, the JD(S) and the Congress four each.
The national president of the JD(S) charged Mr Yeddyurappa with having misused government machinery during the polls to the zila panchayats. He said that police jeeps were used to distribute liquor and opposition’s complaint on that score fell only on deaf ears.
Lambasting Mr Yeddyurappa for having said that the JD(S) should be removed from the roots, Mr Gowda said, “The language he has used is shocking.”
