Young MPs to J&K youth: Trust dialogue
Even as the Centre is yet to make up its mind on whether to call an all-party meeting on Kashmir at this juncture, a group of 40 young MPs cutting across party lines, on Thursday appealed to the youth in the valley to “exercise restraint” and have trust in dialogue for working out a solution. The Centre is optimistic of restoring normalcy there by fully backing Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah.
According to well-placed sources, the question of a change of guard, imposition of governor’s rule does not arise. The Congress cannot get the chief minister’s post simply because it does not have numbers, they explained.
Meanwhile, group of young members of Parliament said in their statement: “We, as representatives of the people ourselves, believe that together with a positive frame of mind we can seek resolution only through open communication. History teaches us that any resolution can only be brought about through dialogue and not through violence.”
“What has happened in the recent past has been very unfortunate and we are deeply concerned ... We urge our young brothers and sisters in J&K to exercise restraint and have trust in the power of dialogue,” the statement said.
