‘YSR Cong will beat Cong, TDP in polls’

YSR Congress honorary president Vijayamma on Wednesday asserted that her party would trounce both the Congress and the TDP in the forthcoming Assembly and general elections in 2014.

In an exclusive chat with this newspaper immediately after the bail plea of her son and party president Jagan Mohan Reddy was rejected by the Andhra Pradesh high court, the YSRC honorary president exuded confidence that her son would emerge unscathed in the disproportionate assets case which she believes is foisted.

She said, “We have immense faith in the judiciary. We know justice is on our side. Ultimately, Jagan will come out clean.” She further said, “All these charges are trumped up. People have rejected them in the bypolls. They know he (Jagan) is innocent.”

On her plans for the 2014 polls she said, both the Congress and the TDP would be forced to shut shop after the elections. “Both the Congress and the TDP are only fighting Jagan. That is their one point agenda. But our party is fighting for the cause of the public. Therefore, they have shifted their loyalty to YSRC. ”

Rejecting suggestions that she and her son would return to the Congress fold, the Pulivendula MLA emphasised that the question doesn’t arise at all. “Oh, that can never happen,” she said.

On the question of joining hands with the BJP for the 2014 polls, she declared that there would be no pre-poll alliance with any party as her outfit is strong enough to perform well on its own.

She termed as hypothetical any talk of tie-up with the saffron party in post-poll period. On the controversial issue of Telangana statehood, Vijayamma repeated what Jagan has been maintaining
all along.

“We neither have the power to grant Telangana nor do we have the strength to reject the demand. It is for the Centre to resolve the issue amicably to the satisfaction of all concerned.”

She was answering a query if there was a change in the stand of the party in the light of the impressive performance put up by her party at Parkal in the bypolls.
