YSR Congress chief moves apex court in assets case

YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Andhra Pradesh High Court order directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register a case and investigate allegations that he had amassed huge wealth.

Jaganmohan Reddy filed his plea on Tuesday and it is likely to come up in court later this week. The allegations against him were made by state minister P. Shankar Rao.

The YSR Congress chief challenged the Aug 8 direction of the high court and contended that the CBI investigation was ordered without there being any adverse finding against him.

The petition said that the high court should have granted Jaganmohan Reddy an opportunity of perusing the preliminary report of the investigating agency.

Referring to the July 22 apex court order, he said that the apex court had said: "In case the high court wants to proceed against the petitioner, the principle of natural justice has to be complied with".

The petition said that the high court pre-judged his guilt by saying that ‘glaring illegalities are writ large’, as a result of which the allegations of possible mala fides against Shankar Rao were of no consequence.

Jaganmohan Reddy contended that Shankar Rao dragged him to court on account of political rivalry.
