YSR Congress leader ends life, blames police
Hyderabad: Uppal Congress leader Y. Sridhar Reddy, also known as Uppal YSR, ended his life by consuming poison on Saturday allegedly due to police torture. He left behind a 10-page suicide note addressing the Chief Minister, DGP, YSRC leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, his relatives and neighbours.
Sridhar’s body was found when his wife went to his office room after 5 am. “He was found unconscious. The family took him to a private hospital, where he was declared dead,” said an Uppal police officer.
Sridhar, who was allegedly involved in the murder case of the Ramanthapur corporator’s brother, said in his note that he was tortured by Malkajgiri ACP Radhakishan Rao. The note said that the ACP demanded Rs 10 lakh to hush up the cases.
Sridhar and his aides were arrested by the Uppal police on June 13 for conspiring to kill Ramanthapur corporator M. Parameshwar Reddy. He was released on bail after two days. The suicide note said the Malkajgiri ACP threatened to open a rowdy-sheet on him and book more cases.
He wrote that Special Operation Team inspector Chandrashekhar and others tortured him on June 9. “I was taken to Amberpet SOT building, and was beaten with sticks three days,” the note said.
In one of the pages, Sridhar addressed Jagan and said that he had to meet this fate because his name was YSR. “Take care of my children and family,” he requested Jagan. Cyberabad commissioner C.V. Anand appointed an independent investigation officer to probe into the case. ACP Dronacharyalu has been appointed the investigation officer.
