YSR's widow requests PM for impartial CBI probe against son

YSR Congress party honorary president and MLA Y. S. Vijayamma on Tuesday appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct CBI to act ‘impartially’ not yielding to any pressure from its political bosses as far as investigations against her son and Kadapa MP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy are concerned.

"The way the CBI has been carrying on its investigations into various cases, (it is) desperately trying to establish a link to Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who never occupied any public office before May 2009, leaves much to be desired.

The CBI has been pressurising witnesses by using all its brute power and threatening them of dire consequences to give evidence against Jaganmohan Reddy," Vijayamma alleged in a five-page letter to the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

The ongoing CBI investigation into the Emaar Properties case, amassing of illegal wealth by Jagan and related cases clearly established the direction of the probe "which is ultimately to target Jagan and not the real culprits," the widow of late chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy alleged.

Recalling her previously missive which she had sent to the Prime Minister in August last, Vijayamma said, "I sincerely expected that your office would intervene and do something to bring sanity to the ongoing CBI investigations; unfortunately things have only worsened".

"Sir, the CBI is working under your administrative control. We cannot imagine that knowingly you are keeping quiet over the goings on, given your background as an honest person. May we appeal to you to issue instructions to the CBI to act impartially without coming under pressure of their political bosses," Vijayamma pleaded with the Prime Minister.
