11 rescued from mountain blizzard in China
Eleven migrant workers returning home from the neighbouring Myanmar were trapped for 60 hours in a mountain blizzard before being rescued in a major operation involving 100 rescuers in Southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Two lumbermen from Myanmar, also trapped in the snowstorm, were saved by the rescuers on Saturday, official news agency 'Xinhua' reported.
The migrant workers, who were returning from Myanmar to join their families for the Spring Festival, were hit by a snowstorm on Tuesday when they travelled through a pass in Gaoligong Mountain.
When their vehicle was trapped in the snow, they decided to walk along the heavy snow and freezing cold.
However, after their food ran out, seven of the migrant workers were unable to continue.
More than 100 militiamen were sent by the Lushui government for the rescue attempt after authorities received calls from the migrant workers.
