19 killed in China shopping mall fire
Nineteen people were killed and 27 others injured when a huge fire ripped through a shopping mall in Northeast China's Jilin City, the official media reported today.
Liu Qizhi, a spokesman with the city government, said 24 of the 27 injured people were admitted to hospitals.
However, none of them suffered severe injuries. The general manager of the mall has been detained by the police for questioning, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
According to the report, it took 10 hours to extinguish the fire, which broke out on November 5.
The blaze was mainly raged on the fourth floor of the five-story shopping center where there were number of furniture stores were located, the report said.
