30 to 40 people buried in landslides in China
About 30 to 40 people were buried today in a rain-triggered landslide in China’s southwestern Sichuan Province, local officials said.
The landslide took place this morning in Zhongxing Township, Dujiangyan city, state-run Xinhua news agency reported quoting sources with the fire brigade of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan.
The brigade’s official account on the microblogging service Sina Weibo said that about 30 to 40 people had been buried in the landslide.
The first batch of rescuers have arrived at the scene, it said. China has been hit by heavy rainfall in recent days, including most of Sichuan, where three bridges have collapsed since Monday.
