4 killed in Vietnam fireworks blast

Hanoi: Three foreigners and one Vietnamese were killed in an explosion of fireworks being prepared for Hanoi's millennium celebrations, official sources said on Wednesday.

Two sources, who asked not to be further identified, separately confirmed the deaths. Vietnamese media also reported the deaths.

VietnamNet online news service quoted Mr Nguyen Duc Nhanh, director of the Hanoi police, as saying four people were killed when two containers of fireworks "burned".

Three other people were injured, he was quoted as saying. "The reason for the fire is due to mistakes in the transportation process," Nhanh said.
