Basra car bomb kills 10, wounds 30: Military
A car bomb in a crowded market in the Southern Iraqi city of Basra on Tuesday killed at least 10 people and wounded 30, a military officer said.
“It was a car bomb in the Al Qaida district, and the result was 10 killed and 30 wounded,” the officer at the scene told AFP.
Earlier, the police and hospital sources confirmed there were dead and wounded in the attack, which targeted a popular shopping district full of stores and cafes.
Basra, like the rest of the Iraq’s southern cities, is predominantly Shiite Muslim.
Twin bombings on Tuesday in Shiite holy cities in Southern Iraq targeting Iranians killed at least 18 people, 10 of them pilgrims from Iran.
The police and local officials said the attacks also wounded 58 people, mostly Iranian pilgrims.
