Bird hit caused crash of Ilyushin Il-76
The Ilyushin Il-76 of Georgian private sunways airlines, which crashed in Pakistan on Sunday, was in good condition, airline representatives said here.
"The plane underwent a regular examination two weeks ago, and technicians confirmed its good condition. We also rule out a human factor, as the crew was skilled and had 18 hours of rest before the flight," the airline said on Sunday.
"Thus, migrant birds might have rammed into the plane in the dark. Possibly, birds are the cause of the accident, but we need to wait for conclusions of a special commission," the airline said.
Local television said with the reference to the georgian transport authority that Georgian representatives would take part in the investigation.
The Il-76 was transporting humanitarian cargo of about 40 tonnes from the United Arab Emirates to Sudan. Two minutes after the takeoff, the plane fell down on an unfinished building in a residential area close to the Karachi Airport.
All the eight crew members died in the crash.
The Ukrainian foreign ministry confirms the death of seven Ukrainian citizens in the crash of an Ilyushin Il-76 plane in Pakistan on Sunday, Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Dikusarov said with the reference to the airline.
"The victims are identified, but their names will not be published until after the families are notified," he said.
