Bring big fish into tax net: Pakistan’s tax ombudsman
Tax collection targets cannot be achieved “till big fish are brought into the tax net”, said Pakistan’s tax ombudsman.
Federal tax Ombudsman Shoaib Suddle expressed unhappiness over the tax collection system and said in Quetta that tax revenue cannot be enhanced till the wealthy evading taxes were caught. Up to Rs 5 trillion could be collected as taxes but now just between Rs 1.5 trillion and Rs 1.6 trillion was being collected, he said on Tuesday.
“Increase in tax collection cannot be achieved till big fish are brought into the tax net,” Dawn quoted Suddle as saying. He said the system needs to be reformed. “Every person who is earning will have to pay tax to the government according to its income,” he stressed.
