China: 150 trapped in landslide

At least 150 people have been buried or trapped in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in southwest China on Monday, state media reported.
Rescue work was under way in the affected village of Dazhai in Guizhou province, the Xinhua news agency said, citing a statement from local authorities.
The number of casualties was not immediately known. Calls to local authorities were not immediately answered. Parts of eastern, central and southern China have been doused with torrential rain for days. On Sunday, authorities said nearly 69 million people had been affected.

5 Americans appeal terror convictions
Islamabad, June 28: Five US nationals who have been sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Pakistani court for waging war against the state and funding a terrorist group appealed against their convictions on Monday, reports our Pakistan correspondent.
The five, aged 19 to 25, were convicted by an anti-terrorism court last week after being on trial since March.
Umar Farooq, Waqar Hussain, Rami Zamzam, Ahmad Abdullah Mini and Amman Hassan Yammer were arrested in December 2009 and had faced a maximum punishment of life in prison.
Defence lawyer Hassan Katchela said that the appeal had been filed in the Lahore high court.

5 die in Iraq bombing, shootout
Baghdad, June 28: Five people were killed on Monday in a shooting and a bombing in Baghdad, including two teenage girls suspected of prostitution who were slain by gunmen in a raid on their home, the Iraqi police said.

Criminals and insurgents are exploiting security gaps as Iraqi politicians bicker over the formation of a new government more than three months after parliamentary elections held.
