China microbloggers spread coup rumours

Rumours of a military coup broke out in the Chinese blogosphere, with many users of hundreds of micro sites claiming 'there are tanks on the streets'.

A quick check by several heads of states and a look outside the window proved the whole thing was an Internet hoax, just like the assassination rumors surrounding Kim Jong Il.

The coup reports claimed the military had mobilized thousands of troops to take down President Hu Jintao and tanks were rolling out in into the streets.
