China mishaps kill 73 in 48 hrs
At least 17 people were killed on Monday in China in two separate accidents, including a head-on collision between two buses, bringing to 73 the total number of transport-related deaths in the past 48 hours.
Ten people were killed and 43 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses in south China’s Guangxi region on Monday.
The buses, one carrying 55 people and the other carrying 28, collided on a highway in Hechi city.
The injured passengers have been admitted to hospital for treatment. Two of them are in critical condition, Xinhua news agency reported. Meanwhile, six people, including a five-year-old girl, were killed when a bus fell into a river in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. The 29-seater bus, with about 15 people on board, was about to drive on a ferry when it plunged into the Hulan river in Qing’an county. Local authorities said the bus driver and two passengers have been saved and search is on for the others.
The collision is the latest in a string of deadly transport accidents in China in the past two days.
