Chinese artist who designed Olympic mascot sues gallery
A Chinese artist who designed the 2008 Beijing Olympics mascot has sued an art gallery here for selling replicas of his works, a media report said.
Han Meilin has sought a compensation of 410,000 yuan (US$62,000) and a public apology from the owner of Qingqing Art Gallery, Shanghai Daily reported on Wednesday.
The Beijing Olympics mascot was the Fuwa.
Hu said that gallery was selling copies of 41 of his paintings, porcelains and seals.
He said his paintings cost 100,000 yuan on an average.
A recent artwork of his was sold for 7.6 million yuan. The gallery owner said he merely displayed Han's work in the gallery and had not used it to make a profit.
