Chinese man gets death for producing fake currency notes
A Chinese court has sentenced the leader of a currency counterfeiting gang to death and jailed his seven accomplices to varying jail terms for circulating fake notes worth millions of dollars.
The court in south China's Guangdong province sentenced Wu Shengyou for running the fake currency racket from September 2009 to April 2010, during which they printed counterfeit notes with a face value of 195 million yuan ($30.6 million).
Besides Wu, the seven others received penalties ranging from life imprisonment to a five-year jail term for forging or transporting notes, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
