Court delays verdict on Musharraf
Islamabad, Oct. 12: A Pakistani court on Tuesday deferred its verdict in a petition accusing the former military ruler, Mr Pervez Musharraf, of “high treason.”
The Sindh High Court deferred till Thursday its ruling on the constitutional petition regarding the high treason against Mr Musharraf, eminent lawyer Mr Sharifuddin Pirzada and former attorney general Mr Malik Mohammed Qayyum, a court official said in Karachi.
The case ruling was scheduled on Tuesday according to the cause list set, but, the court delayed the verdict till Thursday, he added. The petition said that Mr Musharraf imposed martial law in the name of emergency by taking up an extra-constitutional measure on November 3, 2007, and Mr Sharifuddin Pirzada and Mr Malik Qayyum abetted him.
“On this ground, all three should be docked over high treason under Article-6 (high treason) of the Constitution”, said the petition. Mr Musharraf is set to start a new career in politics.
