Drunk Russian hijacks electric bus
A drunk man in a central Russian city faces up to five years in jail after he drove off a electric bus when the driver went to a grocery store, police said.
The incident took place in Kirov city. The man, whose name was not given, was drunk when he boarded the bus at its last stop May 2.
The vehicle - that does not run on rails but takes its power from an overhead wire - veered off the road and came to rest after losing power when its poles came off the overhead electric cables.
"I got on and started waiting for the trolleybus to go. When it didn't, I decided to drive it myself. I went to the driver's seat and pressed the pedal," the man said, when the effects of the drink had worn off.
The driver and conductor managed to return to the bus and held the man until police arrived. No one was hurt in the incident.
