Egypt's ousted President Mubarak's wife 'attempted suicide'

Egypt's ousted President Hosni Mubarak's wife Suzanne attempted suicide when she came to know that she would be arrested for alleged corruption, soon after her husband's detention last year, according to her memoirs.
"May 13, 2011, was the 'darkest' day of my life. When Assem al-Gohary, assistant justice minster for illicit gains affairs, brought an order to arrest me I took an overdose of sleeping pills and wanted to commit suicide as I could not imagine what for and how to live," Suzanne wrote in her book.
However, according to the book, the former First Lady was miraculously saved, Russian news agency Ria Novosti quoted a EGYnews report as saying.
"And then my husband got in touch with somebody who was in power in Egypt, I think somebody from world politicians and managed to keep me near him in (the) hospital for the time of my detention," Suzanne recalled.
Mubarak's lawyer, Farid al-Dib, managed to solve the issue of her arrest.
"It was exactly him who advised to write a waiver of all my property to (the) Egyptian government. And then (it) was May 17, and I was released without any charges," she said.
In her memoirs, Suzanne has also revealed many surprising facts about the last days of Mubarak's presidency.
"(The) USA, Saudi Arabia, United Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait offered (my) husband and all family members political asylum at the beginning of February 2011. But when he resigned on February 11, these offers were immediately called off," the former first lady wrote.
Mubarak stepped down on February 11 after 18 days of mass demonstrations during the 2011 Egyptian revolution, after he transferred authority to the Supreme Council of Armed Forces.
He is facing charges of corruption and abuse of power.
