Gunman kills several in UK, body found
The British police on Wednesday afternoon found the body of a gunman who went on a shooting rampage and killed at least five people and injured 25 people in the tourist region of Cumbria in England.
Fifty-two-year-old Derrick Bird went on a shooting spree at around 10.30 am on Wednesday in the coastal town of Whitehaven, which lies on the edge of the Lake District, a popular destination for tourists. He then drove through the Lake District shooting, apparently at random, at other victims. The Cumbria police has not disclosed the identities of Bird’s victims and those injured in the shooting rampage as yet.
The police which went on a major manhunt across West Cumbria since the first shooting on Wednesday morning located Bird’s in a wooded area near Boot in Eskdale Valley of Cumbria. The police also seized a gun from the scene. Bird had gone on his shooting spree while driving a dark grey/silver Citreon Picasso, but his car was found abandoned in the Boot area.
Prime Minister David Cameron, before beginning his first Prime Minister’s Questions, told the House of Commons that at least five people had died in the shooting rampage in Cumbria.
“The government will do everything it possibly can to help the local community and those affected, and to keep the House informed. A full statement will be made to Parliament on Thursday,” he said.
