Hillary Clinton praises Indo-US community’s role

Highly praising the significant role of the Indian-American community in strengthening the ties between the two countries, US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has said that the Indian diaspora would help Washington and New Delhi to write the next chapter of relationship between the two great democracies of the world.
“Indian-American has contributed so much to the fabric of our society. We know that you are scholars and business leaders, politicians and artists, musicians, academics, physicians, lawyers and so much more and you have helped to cement the bonds between India and the US,” Ms Clinton said.
“You and I, the diaspora community, would help write the next chapter of the US-India partnership,” she said in a video message on Monday to a conference on Indo-US relationship organised jointly by the East West Centre and the India US world affairs ahead of the second Indo-US strategic dialogue to be held in New Delhi next week.
Ms Clinton is leading a high-powered US delegation for the talks in India.
“Next week, I will be in New Delhi for the second US India strategic dialogue where we will discuss new ways to advance our goals on a variety of important issues.
We are working together to create economic opportunities for people, to fight terrorism and violent extremism, to stop the spread of nuclear weapons,” she said.
“We are addressing climate change and giving more people and nations a pathway out of poverty. But we know the governments alone can’t solve all of Tuesday’s problems. That’s why we need your ideas and we need your energy and you commitment to help us meet some of the most complicated and pressing challenges of our time,” she said.
Ms Clinton thanked the Indian-American community to help and bring the two great nations, the two great democracies even closer together and for contributing in their own ways to a brighter future for the people of the US and India.
