Hina, ISI chief to brief pak parties on U.S.
Pakistan foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar and ISI chief Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha on Thursday will brief a meeting of Pakistan’s political parties convened by the Prime Minister to forge national consensus on dealing with mounting tensions with the US.
Nearly 60 leaders of the country’s political and religious parties, including the PML-N and Jamaat-e-Islami, will attend the brainstorming session called by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to mount a coordinated response to US accusations linking the Inter-Services Intelligence to the Haqqani network.
Ms Khar, who returned on Wednes-day from a visit to the US where she represented Pakistan at the UNGA, will brief the meeting on foreign policy while the ISI chief will do so on the security situation, including Pakistan’s response to US threats of unilateral action against the Haqqani network, official sources said.
Ms Khar’s is the only senior Pakistani leader who has had direct contacts with the Obama administration since US Adm. Mike Mullen described the Haqqani network as a “veritable arm” of the ISI. — PTI
