Indian waiter killed in Malay
An Indian national working as a waiter here was shot dead in full view of football fans gathered at a restaurant to watch the opening match of Fifa World Cup 2010.
The waiter, in his 30s, identified only as Dash, had just finished work when the incident occurred in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara in Petaling Jaya. Petaling Jaya deputy superintendent Abdul Razak Eliyas said the victim was walking home when a man in a helmet approached him.
“The man fired a shot at Dash’s stomach from a short distance,” he said.
He said the killer ran across the street to a waiting Proton Perdana car and sped off, the Star reported.
The waiter was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival at 1.30 am on Saturday.
The restaurant’s owner, who declined to be named, said the victim had been working there for four months.
The police recovered a 0.9mm bullet casing from the scene and were studying the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings.
About 50 people were watching the World Cup game at the restaurant at the time, Mr Razak said.
He said the killing was well planned and the police believes the motive was revenge, New Straits Times reported.
Besides 1.7 million ethnic Indians, Malaysia has many Indian nationals, a bulk of them Tamils, who take up jobs in restaurants and coffee shops.
