Japan falls silent a month after tsunami

Japan fell silent at 2:46 pm on Monday as people across the country remembered the thousands killed by the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and the monster tsunami it created.

Television footage from around the northeast coast showed ranks of survivors and rescue workers with heads bowed in silence to mark a month since Japan's worst natural disaster in living memory.
