Jonathan takes unbeatable lead in Nigerian vote: Results
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday built an unbeatable lead after elections, according to official results still being declared, putting him on course to be announced the winner.
With 31 states plus the capital declared, Jonathan had enough votes for victory. The remaining number of registered voters were not enough to allow his main challenger, Muhammadu Buhari, to catch up.
Nigeria has 36 states plus the federal capital territory, which includes Abuja and the surrounding area.
Jonathan had won more than 21 million votes and 22 states plus the capital, according to results officially declared so far. Buhari had roughly 10 million.
Observers have hailed the conduct of Saturday's elections but concerns were raised late on Sunday over extraordinarily high totals favouring Jonathan in parts of his native South.
Riots have also broken out in the north, Buhari's stronghold, over fraud allegations.
