Kolkata boy announced the birth of the royal baby
London: An orphanage student from Kolkata, Badar Azim, was the royal footman who announced Prince George’s birth at Buckingham Palace.
It was a twist of fate that Azim, 25, happened to be on duty at the Privy Purse door after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth.
Badar studied at the St. Mary’s Orphanage in Kolkata, which later sponsored his degree at the city’s International Institute of Hotel Management College.
After two years at the institute, the orphanage raised £10,000 to fly Badar to Scotland, where he did his degree at Napier University. He graduated in 2011 and got a job as a junior footman at Buckingham Palace in February 2012.
‘The orphanage helps transform the lives of hundreds of kids each year. The charity enabled me to come to Edinburgh and complete my studies,” Azim said. He has spent 18 months at Buckingham Palace and has also met the Queen.
