Last in line has 4,972 before her
Prince Charles may have been waiting a record 59 years as heir apparent to the British throne, but Karin Vogel, last in the line of succession, must wait for nearly 5,000 royals to die to become Queen of England.
Ms Vogel, 38, is a direct descendant of Sophia of Hanover, an obscure 18th century German princess. She is the last in line to the British crown, and will become Queen only after 4,972 others in the queue die. Sophia is her great-times-eight-grandmother.
A therapist at a hospital in Rostock, Germany, Ms Vogel says she is happy she would not be burdened with the responsibility of ruling England and 16 sovereign states anytime soon. “I can lean back and relax,” she told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s really very comforting one doesn’t have to worry about Great Britain”, adding it’s “too stressful” to be Queen. —PTI
