Launch of 2 telecommunication satellites ends in failure
Launch of two telecommunications satellites into space with the aid of a Briz-M booster block ended in a failure on Tuesday morning after a technology fault, an official spokesman for the Russian Federal Space Agency /Roscosmos said.
The upper-stage of the block with the two satellites was not detected in the transitional orbit and the upper-stage transmitted a signal from the emergency exchange orbit.
Early data indicates there were no problems with the switch-on of the sustainer engine, which took place as scheduled.
"A Proton-M missile with the Briz-M booster block lifted off from the Baikonur Space Center at 23:31 /20:31 GMT/ Monday," said Alexei Kuznetsov, the spokesman.
The booster block was delivering into space the Russian satellite Express MD2 and the Indonesian satellite Telkom-3.
The upper-stage separated from the carrier rocket at 23:41, and the satellite were supposed to separate from the booster block and to get into the designated orbits between 08:30 and 09:15 Tuesday, August 7.
