Local religious leader, 3 militants killed in northwest Pak
A religious leader was killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan's restive northwest, where security forces shot dead three militant commanders today.
Sardar Haider Hussain, a low-ranking religious leader belonging to Ahl-e-Tashih, was shot by the gunmen in Peshawar. Hussain succumbed to his injuries at a state-run hospital, local officials said.
The gunmen ambushed Hussain when he was on his way to his office in Kotwali area of Peshawar. In a separate incident, three militant commanders were killed in clashes with security forces in the troubled Swat Valley.
Security officials said militants opened fire at troops conducting an operation in Kabal sub-division. The security forces returned fire, killing the three commanders. A cache of arms was also seized from their possession.
